Silver Squad - is an over-50s strength and mobility programme designed to help people stay active, independent, and connected as they move through later life. Our approach focuses on building strength, improving mobility, balance, and confidence, while creating a supportive and social environment where members feel comfortable, motivated, and valued.
Sessions are carefully structured to be safe, inclusive, and adaptable, allowing participants of all fitness levels and backgrounds to take part. We place strong emphasis on functional strength and mobility — the movements that matter most in everyday life, such as standing up with ease, walking confidently, lifting safely, and maintaining balance. Exercises are coached with clear instruction and encouragement, helping members move better, feel stronger, and reduce the risk of injury or falls.
Beyond physical benefits, Silver Squad is built around community and connection. Many people over 50 experience reduced social interaction, and we recognise how important it is to create a welcoming space where friendships can grow. Sessions are friendly, supportive, and relaxed, with plenty of opportunity to chat, laugh, and build genuine relationships. For many members, Silver Squad becomes a key part of their weekly routine — something to look forward to both physically and socially.

We also extend the experience beyond regular sessions through a wide range of social events and group activities, helping to strengthen the sense of belonging. These include gym BBQs, group walks, dog-walking meet-ups, and informal social gatherings, all designed to keep people moving while enjoying each other’s company in a relaxed setting.
For those who enjoy setting goals and challenges, Silver Squad also offers optional competitive and event-based opportunities. Members have taken part in weekends away and organised trips to events such as Leeds competitions, Lake District activity weekends, the World Athletics Games, and the Castle Games. Participation is always encouraged but never pressured — the focus remains on enjoyment, personal achievement, and shared experience rather than winning.
Looking ahead, our 2026 calendar is already well underway, with many more social events, trips, and challenges planned. This forward-thinking approach reflects the success of the programme and our commitment to providing meaningful, engaging opportunities for our members year after year.
